THE BUREAU OF FIRE SAFETY ENFORCES THE NEW JERSEY UNIFORM FIRE CODE FOR FIRE SUB-ODE RESPONSIBILITIES IN BRICK TOWNSHIP:

Currently New Jersey has adopted the 2000 International Building Code, the 2000 N.J. Edition of the Residential ICC Building Code, the 2000 International Mechanical Code and applicable National Fire Protection Association Codes and New Jersey Uniform Fire Code for Preventive Maintenance for other than 1 or 2 family owner occupied dwellings.

Inspection responsibilities for fire include, but are not limited to: Oil tank abandonment and abatement; Gas and wood Fireplace installation; Gas and oil appliances (dryers, stoves, furnaces); Smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detector installation; Egress; Pre-engineered fire protection systems (such as kitchen suppression systems and ventilation); Fire sprinkler systems, Fire extinguishers, Occupancy loads, and Fire resistive construction.

Upon submission of a plan to the Building Department, a plan must first have prior approvals, which may include but is not limited to Zoning, Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, and Engineering. Upon receiving the required prior approvals, the plan is then submitted to the disciplines in the building department for review. Plans are reviewed by Building, Plumbing, Electric and Fire Sub-Code and are passed onto the various disciplines after an initial review. The Fire Bureau reviews plans daily. Upon review of a plan by the fire inspectors, any noted deficiencies will be addressed in writing and contact will be made with the submitting party for corrections, additions or deletions. The time and date of contact is recorded on the form. It is possible to receive a fax copy to expedite the plan review process, if requested.
